For any nation it's important
to have symbols ... which signify some unity in values,
in identity, in purposes
... but such symbols should represent
who and where we presently ARE, as well as how we wish to DEVELOP, and who we might
BECOME
It's a natural and human tendency
to also expect some symbols to celebrate our history - or where
we CAME FROM - these also have value and may be used to celebrate
our histories when needed ...
But time and social change make such
past symbols outdated, and lacking relevance to TODAY'S generations
in Australia - let's think about two of them :
